The University of Porto is the final destination of this year's "International Collegiate Programming Contest", the larger and oldest programming competition among the universities of the world, so expect nothing less than technological leadership at its best.

The International Collegiate Programming Contest - ICPC, is an annual multi-tiered competition that operates autonomous regional contests covering six continents culminating in a global World Finals every year.

This competition traces its roots to 1970 and it is held in the current format since 1977. The Invicta is at the global vanguard of innovation and new technologies once again by gathering over 320,000 ICPC alumni, who populate the professional ranks of high-tech companies, consulting firms, financial institutions, investment firms, high-tech startups, venture-capital firms, academia, and public service.

Most of these former students are now developers, software engineers, senior software engineers, leads, chiefs, CTOs, CEOs, founders, and co-founders.

Portugal, the University of Porto will host the event from 1 to 6 April, with the World Finals taking place on 4 April.

"There will be lots of initiatives and activities for all those that wish to participate", according to the University of Porto.

The activities programme include a programming competition organised by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, there will also be the National Computer Olympics 2019, a hackathon, meetings between entrepreneurs and companies, conferences on the future of technology and debates on the single market. All the events will take place at Porto Customs Building and at Porto Innovation Hub.

The first day, 1 April, kicks off at Porto Customs with a "Start & Scale Week", aimed at boosting "innovation, entrepreneurship and technology"; one of the main conferences is themed "Developing skills for the future tech industry", and it is organised "so that both national and international participants can debate how the new generations will influence the future of technology", as stated by the University of Porto.

The ICPC operates under the auspices of the ICPC Foundation and operates under agreements with host universities and non-profits, all in accordance with the ICPC Policies and Procedures.
