Guilhermina Suggia's Montagnana cello will be heard again in the context of the In Spiritum Porto Music Festival, during the two last concerts to be held at the City's Hall Main Hall.

After seven successful concerts, which began Saturday, 19th May, with attendees crowding in to experience classical music to nurture the spirit and enjoying Porto cultural heritage altogether, the In Spiritum Festival features two final concerts on 22 and 29 May, at 9.30 pm.

Bach's Cello Suites No. 1, 3 and 5 will be played today, at 9.30 pm and Suites No. 2, 4 and 6 will be played Tuesday, on 29 May, also at 9.30 pm, by American musician Jed Barahal, resident in Porto for the past 30 years.

Jed Barahal is Assistant Professor at ESMAE - Superior School of Music and Performing Arts since 1993 and has developed his artistic career as a soloist and chamber musician in three continents.

He holds a Master degree by Yale University and has graduated at the Juilliard School in New York. Barahal has also pursued studies with Harvey Shapiro, Lorne Munroe and Aldo Parisot, and attended masterclasses with Pierre Fournier, Paul Tortelier and Janos Starker.

The six Cello Suites, BWV 1007-1012, are suites for unaccompanied cello by Johann Sebastian Bach. These solo compositions are some of the most frequently performed pieces ever written for cello.

It is most likely that Bach composed them between 1717 and 1723, while serving as Kapellmeister in Köthen.
