The European Network for Collaboration on Kidney Exchange (ENCKEP) is a project that gathers 28 countries all over Europe and whose technology was developed by a INESC TEC research team.

One of the major goals of ENCKEP is to boost the dialogue at European level to identify the best practices regarding kidney transplant. Examples of 'good practice' are "suitability criteria for the donor, the type of information on the patient and which data to consider in a preliminary compatibility test", explains Ana Viana, INESC TEC researcher.

The project also aims to establish a common platform to share data and boost the optimization programme in partnership with international organisations.

The final prototype will be conclude by the end of 2020.

INESC TEC is an internationally-oriented multidisciplinary Associate Laboratory with more than 30 years of experience in R&D and technology transfer, located on the campus of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto.

INESC TEC and the Portuguese Blood and transplantation Institute are the sole Portuguese partners of this project. The following countries participate in this project: Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Check Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Macedonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, the Republic of Ireland, Italy, Leetonia, Malt, Holland, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
