Although the festive season is sort of a quiet affair this 2020, the traditional landscape of circus entertainment will be delivered by the Christmas Circus in Coliseu do Porto Ageas, on 11th December. The novelty is a live orchestra.

From 11th December to 3rd January, the traditional Christmas Circus is back to Coliseu do Porto with 20 artists, absolute premiers, the famous Portuguese clown Rui Paixão and a live orchestra, conducted by maestro Cesário Costa.

The instrument ensemble features two line-ups of 15 musicians each that will perform an original soundtrack especially prepared for the show, by composer Filipe Raposo, pianist, author of several cinema and theatre soundtracks and resident at the Cinemateca Portuguesa.

This Christmas show also features 20 artists that will bring to the Invicta absolute premiers of aerobatics, illusionism, trapeze, clown, Chinese pole and tight rope acts, as well as Circus Physics, parkour and juggling.

One of the headliners is Rui Paixão, the first Portuguese artist to take part in the Cirque du Soleil and who will be the ringmaster for the 2020 Xmas Circus at Coliseu Porto Ageas.

Aerobatics and vertical dance feature “Laboratório”, delivered by Miguel Tira-Picos and João Pataco, the great winners of the TV show Got Talent Portugal 2020.

The circus also offers amazing balance and agility numbers with acrobat Daniel Seabra, flying the trapeze. Seabra has already worked with such companies as La Fura dels Baus.

Also, the very best acts by Andrély, the two times nominee Magician of the Year by the Academy of Magical Arts, will amaze children and adults alike. The magician Flávia Molina will join Andrély in the circus arena.

The holder of the Guinness world record for boomerangs’ throwing, Danny Luftman will be on stage to offer the audience the most extraordinary juggling act ever.

The Chinese Pole, in turn, will bring Leonardo Ferreira to climb, slide down and hold poses and really making a point on what boundless talent means.

Diana Niepce, a trained trapeze artist and ballet dancer, offers insight on what are the challenges that a disruptive viewpoint of the norm can bring, thus unveiling new artistic realms and forces.

Team Braga will make an appearance by combining parkour, a balancing act and vertical rope acts.

Circus must have a clown act and this one brings the Luftman trio, who will for sure offer a legendary performance.

The circus at Coliseu Porto Ageas debuts on 11th December, at 8pm for all types of audiences, and it runs till 3rd January 2021. Seat availability is limited and all health measures issued by the DGS are in place. Tickets cost between 7 and 18 euros, and children up to the age of 12 have 50% discount.
