For its 53rd Edition, Portugal Fashion chose to install the catwalk to promote national fashion among the historic vehicles of Museu do Carro Elétrico. Porto City Hall keeps on supporting the event, having approved, at the last executive meeting, a co-funding of 150 thousand euros. The event will take place until Saturday.

In an interview with Lusa, Portugal Fashion’s director explained that they always try to present the initiative as “ a curator, who shows different places of the city to those who visit us”.

In this case, states Mónica Neto, “the Museu do Carro Elétrico, in addition to assuring architectural beauty and proximity to the urban environment and the natural beauty of Douro river, also representing a conceptual connections to a strategic concern for Portugal Fashion, sustainability, combined to electric mobility, creating a connection between past and future”.

Beyond the assumed goal of designing national creations, the director stands out the “increasingly international” nature of the event. “We have another edition with ten designers from eight countries in the creative and geographic universe of Africa”, explains Mónica Neto, highlighting how this partnership “represents the recognition of Portugal Fashion’s know-how and the strength of the Portuguese fashion hub”.

The Support from the Municipality of Porto is justified by “the reinforcement of the dimension, impact and economic, and communication relevance that the Portugal Fashion project represents for the city”. The proposal, presented by the mayor, states that the event “generates a media impact of around six million euros per year, in Portugal alone”.

“Portugal Fashion has assumed a leading role in Porto’s promotional strategy, as the events performed here are structured to enhance the city’s external image, relating it with the concepts of modernity, innovation, irreverence, design, entrepreneurship and culture”, reinforces Rui Moreira.
