Next weekend, circus is in town, with the New Circus featuring two shows devoted to this genre of performing arts developed in the late 20th century in which a story or theme is conveyed by combining traditional circus skills and theatrical techniques.

Both poles of Porto Municipal Theatre, Teatro Rivoli and Teatro Campo Alegre, present the national premiere of "Grande -" by Tsirihaka Harrivel and Vimala Pons, an intergenerational performance, which combines the poetry of imagery and a well-defined writing style.

There will be two shows, one on 23 November, at 9 pm, and another on 24 November, at 7 pm.

"We say what we do and we do what we say" is the artist's pledge to the audience. The focus is on performance over spectacle, providing spectators with an intimate experience, based on the music hall language, theatrical sense and seamless segues between acts.

There are two people on stage, acting and reacting according to apparently random events, engaging on rather surreal performances, both surprising and impressive: what to do when a giant washing machine swallows one of the interpreters?

"Grande -", as the name indicates, is a title to be completed, open to different possibilities.

Also, on Friday and on Saturday, the initiative by Erva Daninha, "Mostra Estufa", will go on stage at Campo Alegre Theatre, to cultivate new languages, aesthetics and dramaturgies within this new genre, the Contemporary Circus, which is often drawn from contemporary culture and from circus tradition as well.
