Nocturnal Agenda to watch the "creatures of the dark"

The municipal programme "Ambiente em Família" [Family outing to the Landscape] will for the first time, on Saturday May 12th, lead a nocturnal outing with families to watch the "creatures of the night".

Under the motto "NoCT - Night of the Creatures of the Darkness", the session will begin at 9 pm at the Environmental Education Centre (CEA), from the Rural Centre of the City Park.

Through a set of scientific dissemination activities, the purpose is to show participants species that are often times than not, attached to myths and superstition, the supernatural or witchcraft.

The fact remains that due to rooted popular beliefs, most nocturnal species are pursed and killed.

Under this session, guided by Jael Palhas, from the Centre for Functional Ecology from the University of Coimbra, participants will have the opportunity to observe different groups of fauna, such as amphibians, bats, birds of prey, night butterflies and arachnids.

Participation in the session is free but the pre-registration is required via email dm.gestaoambiente@cm-porto.pt.

The main target is the large public and families. Children (over the age of 6) must be accompanied by an adult during the entire session.
