Celebrations of São João have been called off in Porto due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic; as such, Porto City Hall put in place several measures to prevent the gathering and moving around of people in Porto.

There are restrictions on mobility as transport offer by Metro, Bus and STCP is cut to minimum services, starting this evening; for example, Metro do Porto concludes its night operations at 11.30pm, about one and a half earlier than in a normal working day, and CP cancelled transport connection between the Stations of Campanhã and São Bento as of 9pm. STCP cut off the early morning service and it operates on the Sunday and Holidays timetable on 24th June.

Amid a pandemic, São João has to be celebrated in a different manner, one that does not put anyone at risk.

Pedestrian and car traffic are also forbidden on both decks of Luiz I Bridge, starting at 8pm today (except for emergency vehicles) and Porto City Hall, jointly with the Municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia, PSP and Municipal Police will enhance supervisory activities, patrolling and urban cleaning management in the city's streets this evening.

It would be a too bigger risk to jeopardize the efforts made by everyone in the city and in the region to control the novel coronavirus pandemic (as of Monday, it is 18 days straight that the city of Porto does not pick up new coronavirus cases).

The Municipality of Porto urges that people celebrate with caution, at home, preferably, together with Radio Festival, which will play the tunes of renowned Portuguese musicians.

This initiative is promoted by the Municipal Company Ágora - Cultura e Desporto.
