Philippe Vergne is the new Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Serralves, as announced today by the Administrative Board of the Foundation.

With 25 years of experience working on various international institutions, Vergne was the Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Los Angeles (MOCA) for the past four years and will take office on April 2019.

"His nomination for Serralves followed a rigorous international tender", refers Serralves in a statement.

"The Administrative Board of the Serralves Foundation was assisted by a renowned group of Museum Directors, namely Frances Morris, Director of Tate Modern, in London; Suzanne Cotter, Director of MUDAM, in Luxembourg; Jochen Volz, Director of Pinacoteca of São Paulo, Brazil; Laurent Le Bon, President of the National Museum Picasso, in Paris; and Vicente Todoli, Artistic Director of Pirelli Hangar Bicocca, in Milan", the statement also reads.

Philippe Vergne was unanimously chosen as the excellent candidate to take over the Direction of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Serralves.

"It is an honour to be part of a museum whose commitment towards the international artistic community, in its various disciplines, is sustained and thorough, while continuing to set high standards", Philippe Vergne states in a communiqué.

As for Ana Pinho, President of the Administrative Board of the Serralves Foundation, Philippe Vergne is "a remarkable curator, bringing a solid and artist vision, not only to the Museum and to the Collection, but also to the extraordinary patrimony of the Serralves foundation and its historic park".

Philippe Vergne was honoured with the title "Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres", granted by the French Government in 2004. In 2014, Vergne was also awarded the Légion d'Honneur in recognition for his 24 years of activity developed in such domains as the arts.
