Praia International do Porto welcomes the top-notch surfers of Portugal, between 18th and 20th September to take part in the crucial second round of the Liga Meo Surf 2020, a qualifying stage for the National Championship.

The Liga Meo Surf competition will see the best surfers take to the waves in the beaches of Porto and Matosinhos these next 18th, 19th and 20th September, under the Renault Porto Pro, which is one of the highpoints of the Porto & Matosinhos Wave Series 2020, of the surf contest calendar.

In an exceptional year, where uncertainty plays a vital role, the Liga Meo Surf is riding out the pandemic and it is the only official competition at global level to assign a surf title.

The resuming of the surfing activities took place in June, under strict contingency measures, adapted to the Liga competition and following the monitoring of public health experts and the validation of the Sports and Youth Portuguese Institute.

"Surf has been an example in the way it adapted to this new reality. The fact that it was the first surf league in the world to kick off following lockdown, shows not only its organising capacity but also that it is an important sign of hope for all athletes and sports agents. Amid the pandemic, we can only wish that this stage in Porto is a success and that everyone can enjoy good waves, in a safely manner", stated Catarina Araújo, councillor for Youth and Sports at Porto City Hall.

The first three stages of the competition were held, respectively, in Figueira da Foz, in Ericeira and in Sintra, and it is now time to head to Porto for this second tour of the surfing competition that will conclude in Cascais, between 15 and 17 October.

Afonso Antunes and Teresa Bonvalot lead the male and female competition, respectively; they also lead both rankings now that the Porto round will kick off, which is a critical one as usually the Renault Porto Pro winner becomes the national champion.

As tradition, in the past years, the Praia International do Porto will be the main stage of the competition, this year with no public attending, and the beach in Leça da Palmeira works as an alternative spot.

The Renault Porto Pro can be enjoyed from home, live on Sport TV, as well as in other official social media: Meo's Facebook, at position 810 of the MEO channel grid, at ligameosurf.pt and at social network at @ansurfistas.

The Meo Surf League is organised by the National Surfers Association and Fire!, with the support of the local municipalities of Porto and Matosinhos, as well as the technical support of Onda Pura and the Portuguese Surf Federation.
