Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the President of the Regional Government of Galicia stated that “Porto has taught us a lesson in cosmopolitanism, openness, internationalisation, culture and tourism and for that it is the most relevant of the euroregion”. This statement was proffered on 27th November, the day Braga launched its application for Braga 2027 - European Capital of Culture.

During the officialising of the application the head of the Regional Government of Galicia stressed the importance of Porto in the context of the Northern Region in The Iberian Peninsula. “Porto experienced a clear splendour. It is the euroregion’s most cosmopolitan region. We have to acknowledge it and congratulate it”, affirmed Alberto Núñez Feijóo, in the ceremony that was also attended by Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira.

Alberto Núñez Feijóo furthered that the Invicta is also an example of “internationalisation, culture and tourism”. The president of the Galician Government, who was awarded the Medal of Honour of the city of Porto in April 2017, added that “Porto is, without a doubt, a key city to understanding the euroregion”.

This is a tribute that Alberto Núñez Feijóo does not forget: “I deeply thank the Mayor of Porto for having appointed me honorary citizen of the city of Porto. Each time I think of the most memorable moments of my presidency in Galicia, this is one of those moments, to be an honorary citizen of Porto, the city I much admire”.

Alberto Núñez Feijóo is the president of the Regional Government of Galicia since 2009, and he hopes that that the application Braga 2027 - European City of Culture may be viewed as an opportunity to “boost the euroregion” and to increase contact in the Atlantic Zone, which includes the city of Porto.
