Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport has been ranked second best in Europe by Airports Council International, based on a passenger's survey.

With demand for air travel in Porto Airport growing at a notable rate, the need for a world-class airport is at an all-time high. This distinction is awarded in the category of airports with annual traffic of over two million passenger movements. Porto Airport has clearly surpassed this threshold in 2017, with a traffic of more than 10 million passengers per year.

This distinction released by Airports Council International, and also shared by the Airports of Malta and Sheremetyevo in Moscow, is the result of a fast passenger traffic growth in just one year. The International Airport of Francisco Sá Carneiro had been listed third in 2016, in the same category.

This year, Sochi Airport in Russia ranked first.

The prize was awarded based on a passenger survey. Waiting times, staff courtesy, cleanliness and comfort were some of the indicators used in the questionnaire.

ACI represents about 450 airports in 45 European countries, responsible for about 90% of the air traffic in Europe and the annual traffic of more than 1.7 billion passengers.
