The municipality of Porto, jointly with the MAPFRE Foundation have organised the event themed "Caravana da Educação", which translates "Education Caravan" in English. The caravan is parked at Batalha Square till April 27th.

Around five thousand children from state schools in Porto, from the 1st to the 5th grade are being taught traffic rules and regulations. The classroom is now the interior of a big truck and a semblance of a road circuit with 1000 square meters, with roundabouts, road signs, traffic signalling and electric karts.

Times are changing and if once it was safe to ride in the streets, nowadays there are more vehicles than ever, so it is imperative to raise awareness on the importance of learning the rules of the road.

For one hour and a half, children learn in a simple and fun way about traffic rules and regulations, roleplaying pedestrian and driver correct behaviours on the road, closely monitored by specialized staff.

This road safety education has been "on the road" since 2009 all over the country, engaging students, parents, teachers and other educational staff.
