It is the run up to the Start&Scale 2018, from 5 to 11 May. Over seven days, Porto plays host to a tailor-made programme including entrepreneurship, innovation and technology as the main promotion tools of the city.

The municipal-led initiative ScaleUp Porto is back to promote activities to wide audiences and reinforce the role of the city as an entrepreneurship, innovation and technology reference both at national and international levels.

For an entire week, Porto will present a comprehensive agenda in the context of the Start&Scale 2018 event, including conferences, discussions, business meetings, visits to professional firms in the region, street actions, the sharing of know-how and knowledge development, and a lot more to celebrate Porto's ecosystem.

The previous two editions of the Start & Scale Week has put forward 36 activities, and about 3.500 people had the opportunity to networking.

The Start&Scale 2018 kicks-off with the hackathon Hack For Good 2018 (5 and 6 May), organised by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, with the purpose of challenging society to become an integral part of a movement for the development of social added-value and innovative technology solutions.

On May 8 and 9, the FIWARE Global Summit brings together programmers, businesspeople, policy makers and investors who will share viewpoints on the use of the Internet of Things and Open Data in building a brighter future on the thematic strategy of cities, industry and agriculture.

Also, the conference themed "Problem solving with Data Science" will deal with "data scientists" and the fact that they are the new generation of professionals who solve major vulnerabilities within the companies by means of their combined skills on statistics, technology and context.

On the last day of the programme, on May 11th, there will be two masterclasses, Defence-in-depth techniques for modern web applications and Google's journey with CSP, encouraging participants to put forward new and promising defence techniques to tackle weaknesses on the most recent web applications.
The masterclass "Rewarding Talent" will debate the issue of team organisation.

Other meetings and workshops will take place throughout the week, as is the case of the "Scale Me Up! With Filipe Araújo", on May 9th, with vice-Mayor of Porto City Hall and in charge of the Department of Innovation, will deliver a lecture on the subject of the ecosystem of the city of Porto and the high-tech founders.

The Doing Business initiative takes place on May 10th, the perfect occasion for startups and major companies to identify opportunities and boost synergies.
