The International Green Infrastructure Conference will be held in Porto, on May 24th and 25th, at Almeida Garrett public library, located in the gardens of Palácio de Cristal.

Urban planners, landscape architects, geologists, agronomists and other professionals and policy makers from different nationalities will gather in the city of Porto to discuss the programming of natural and semi-natural areas with other environmental features, such as water purification, air quality, space for recreation and climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Experts will present the results and conclusions of pertinent research and projects in this field in the context of this interdisciplinary conference on sustainability and nature-based solutions for cities.

The conference is organised by the ANCVgreenroofs Portugal and Porto City Hall and it will focus the debate on finding natural solutions and better alternatives to mitigate the dependence on "grey" infrastructure, which is more expensive to build and to maintain.

Making Porto a greener city is among the various strategies governing the municipal policies regarding environment and natural benefits in the urban context.

The Lisbon Square Green Roof or the Trindade Metro Station are but some of the examples of the policies undertaken by the municipality to provide cost-effective alternatives to traditional infrastructure.
