Port City Hall hosts the first "World Heritage Sites in the Atlantic Area" event on 30 January at Casa do Infante, at 2.30 pm., in the framework of the "AtlaS-WH - Heritage in the Atlantic Area: Sustainability of the Urban World Heritage" project, funded by the INTERREG - Atlantic Area programme.

The "AtlaS-WH" event looks at creating a network of the Atlantic Area historic Heritage Sites, which includes the Historical Centre of Porto, Luiz I Bridge and Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar; also, Ciudad Histórica de Santiago de Compostela (Galicia, Spain); Bordeaux, Le Port de la Lune (France) as well; the Centro Storico di Firenze (Florence, Italy); and The Old and New Towns of Edinburgh (Edinburgh, Scotland).

Nowadays, the challenges facing urban landscape are multiple, as such it is vital to strengthen conservation and management strategies in local and urban planning processes, without encroaching on the different traditions and cultural specificities of each region but rather spotlighting heritage in the special development process that must be built towards urban sustainability.

The event gathers experts who will prepare an Action Plan regarding each Heritage Site by implementing a common methodology that will bring about an integrated management and monitoring model.

Free entry subject to room capacity. The official language of the meeting is English.
