Porto joins 48-hour Jam challenge to boost public services

The city of Porto has participated in the Global Gov Jam, an initiative that is held each year with the main goal of developing new solutions for the public sector.

Teams from 35 cities in the world took part in this Jam event, at the same time and with a 48-hour time setting, to come up with solutions for a common topic-challenge.

This is a non-profit event, which begun in 2012 organised by the company WorkPlayExperience, headquartered in Germany. This organisation has managed to build up a global position in the field of Jam challenges.

This last edition included Portugal, namely Porto Gov Jam, promoted by the Innovation and Environment Department of Porto City hall and carried out by the Association Porto Digital.

Porto team gathered 30 experts of numerous areas, including city management and development. The special challenge was to build solutions regarding significant change in public service, boosting the relationship citizen-city in a positive way.

The team has worked on townsman services, education and urbanism, in the context of "Service Design" and "Design Thinking".
