The Metro of Porto will be extended for more than 5 kilometres and it will have seven more stations in 2022.

The Portuguese State Secretary for Environment, Jorge Mendes stated that the works should begin in 2019. The expansion comprises the construction of the new Pink line in Porto and the extension of the Yellow line in the city of Gaia.

24 months is the estimated duration for the construction of the Pink line (G), connecting São Bento Station, Cordoaria/Santo António Hospital, Galiza/ Maternal and Child Health Centre and Casa da Música/Boavista Roundabout, in Porto.

The extension of the Yellow line includes connecting Santo Ovídio to Vila d'Este, in Gaia, a 3.2 kilometres and three new stations.
Architects Souto Moura and Siza Vieira will design the Pink line underground stations.

Souto Moura stated that it pleases him to work for Metro do Porto, because "besides solving mobility issues, it changes the city".

"It is one more good reason for making gardens, squares and to change pavements and lighting. This is an exceptional opportunity, and if it weren't for the Metro network it would not be done", the architect declared.

"I am not concerned with aesthetics. I am more focused on Metro of Porto continuing to have this clean and enjoyable dimension, which demonstrates that the population cares about it", Souto Moura further said.
