In five years, Porto Municipal Archive had around 170 million visitors per day, enabling the online free consultation of nearly 161 thousand documents and 47 thousand images.

It is worth spotlighting that among the 168.880 visitors, 25 per cent are from outside Portugal. Moreover, visitors represent several nationalities, more specifically 75 countries from different continents.

The online Porto Municipal Archive is hosted in GISAWeb and offers free universal access to documents of historical interest, produced by the municipality (the oldest dates as far back as the 13th century) or from other sources, namely personal, family and institutional files, or even collections of historical interest, including postcards, engravings and posters.

Besides serving the purpose of informing the general public, it provides a service of paramount importance for investigators, historians, architects, urban planners, genealogists, geographers and designers, just to name a few.
