Two new exhibits opened this past Saturday at the Porto Municipal Gallery. One looks into the notions of aesthetics, while the other looks at contemporary art in Porto.

Culled from the work of French artist Caroline Mesquita, in collaboration with Kunsthalle Lissabon and Porto Municipal Gallery, the Astray exhibit showcased its Prologue in December 2018, at the Kunsthalle Lissabon; the natural step is this display of Mesquita's work at Porto Municipal Gallery, whose work was specifically prepared for the Municipal Gallery venue and was put together by Sofia Lemos.

Through the debate on the notions of nature and culture, Caroline Mesquita introduces the concepts of "a temporary museum of aesthetics regarding uncertainty".

The second exhibit, "Anuário - Uma visão retrospetiva da arte no Porto ["A Recap Vision of Art in Porto", free translation] is on show at the ground floor of the gallery. It includes documents and analysis of the artistic creation, put together by Guilherme Blanc and João Ribas. The exhibit brings an invaluable insight to the art work produced in Porto in 2018. The show is curated by Joana Machado, Joaquim Durães, José Maia, Miguel Flor and Rita Castro Neves.

The Anuário exhibit was created in the framework of the Pláka Platform, which gathers the municipal policies that support contemporary art.

Both exhibitions are entrance free and will be on show till 19 May, from Tuesday to Saturday, between 10am and 6pm, and on Sundays between 2pm and 4pm.
