Save this date: in August 2020, the city of Porto, Portugal will host the annual football match contested by the reigning champions of the two main European club competitions, the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.

The application submitted by the Portuguese Football Federation, jointly with Porto City Hall and Futebol Clube do Porto, was approved today.

The Dragão Stadium will be the venue for the European Super Cup in August 2020, as announced today by the UEFA Executive Committee in Kiev.
During this football match the winner of the European Cup will face the winner of the European Cup Winners' Cup, of the 2018/19 season.

The stadium of Dragão has the capacity for 50 000 spectators and FC Porto will be the venue of this "European Grand Final" of clubs since its opening in 2003.

FC Porto venue was chosen over other clubs such as the Tirana Arena (Albania), Stade de Nice (France), Dínamo Stadium (Belarus), Olympic Stadium in Helsinki (Finland), Almaty Stadium (Kazakhstan), Sami Ofer Stadium (Israel), Zimbru Stadium (Moldova) and the Windsor Park Stadium (Northern Ireland).

The President of the Portuguese Football Federation (PFF), Fernando Gomes welcomed the intention of holding the European Super Cup 2020 in the FC Porto Stadium, the Dragão Stadium, and declared it "a clear mark of respect towards the PFF and the Portuguese football in the context of the European football".

The President of the FC Porto showed pride in the fact that the Dragão Stadium was the choice of the UEFA Executive Committee. "It is an excellent opportunity for everyone to enjoy the grandeur of our stadium", Pinto da Costa declared.

The Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira spotlighted football as a way to promoting the city of Porto.

"Football has been one of the most important ways of promoting the city of Porto, mostly through the international performance of FC Porto. And the organisation of such an event is also relevant as it will not only promote the destination Porto but also highlight the prerequisite conditions that Porto already has to carry out and produce significant sports events", Rui Moreira concluded.
