President of the Republic of Cabo Verde received Honorary Doctorate

The University Portucalense awarded an Honorary Doctorate to the President of the Republic of Cabo Verde, Jorge Carlos de Almeida Fonseca. The ceremony took place yesterday afternoon at the University’s Aula Magna.

“Mr Jorge Carlos de Almeida Fonseca is a distinguished statesman in the areas of Criminal, Procedure and Constitutional Law, a renowned university professor and a prominent Man of Culture. In the political arena, his actions to defend the independence of peoples stands out”, referred the University Portucalense in a news release.

The important political offices that he has performed in Cabo Verde and in international organisations are also highlighted by the University Portucalense, which also enhances “the vast teaching activity in universities and other institutions”, as well as a “reputed literary activity as a poet, essayist and writer”.

The University Portucalense further recalls the activities of the Head of State as a legal consultant, lawyer and consultant.

Mayor Rui Moreira was among the guests of this ceremony to award Jorge Carlos de Almeida Fonseca, the President of the Republic of Cabo Verde an Honorary Doctorate, and with whom the Mayor of Porto has a close institutional rapport.
