It is official! Porto is back as a key spot to the 2017 Red Bull Air Race calendar, on 02-03 September.

The announcement was made at a press conference held in Porto, at the Porto Innovation Hubb facilities, by the president of the Regional Tourism Authority of Porto and Norte, Melchior Moreira, by the mayors of Gaia and Porto, Eduardo Vítor Rodrigues and Rui Moreira respectively, and by Erich Wolf, General Manager of the Red Bull Air Race.

For Rui Moreira, "The Red Bull Air Race is most popular among fans and gathers huge crowds".

Porto has hosted the Red Bull Air Race from 2007 through to 2009 and according to General Manager of the Red Bull Air Race, "the historic scenario of Porto and Gaia shores is sure to bring a remarkable visitors number to the race." Erich Wolf also added that "none of the 2017 contenders has ever clinched a win in Portugal's second-largest city, so who knows what will happen on the 02-03 September in 2017?"

Erich Wolf is responsible for the whole event across eight countries, and is very pleased that the Red Bull Air Race World Championship tenth season has Porto as its 6th race in the 2017 calendar.

"We are really excited that Red Bull Air Race is back to Portugal, which is one of the favourite stops of both pilots and fans", stated Erich Wolf.

The 2017 Red Bull Air Race kicked off in Abu Dhabi, on February 10-11 and the next leg is San Diego, USA, on April 15-16.

Porto stop will mark the final circuit over water this 2017 season, and the route over the River Douro is likely to be challenging.
