Porto, Matosinhos and Vila Nova de Gaia will host the European Championship Laser Sailing 2019, which is scheduled to take place from 18 to 25 May.
The world's top sailors of the Olympics Laser Class will compete for the European title in the sea of the Atlantic Front (Porto, Matosinhos and Gaia).

Although this is a European competition, the sailing competition is open to "all countries", as announced by the competition director, Diogo Barros. Thus, there are registered competitors from "The United states, the Seychelles, China, Australia or even New Zealand".

Around 350 sailors will take part in one of the top competitions of the international calendar which will be used for the Qualifying Games for the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.

Portugal will compete with "30 sailors", in the Laser Standard (masculine and Olympic), Laser Radial (feminine and Olympic) and Laser Radial OPEN classes.

The championship will be taken at sea, with one regatta in the beaches of Vila Nova de Gaia and the other at bay, in the cities of Porto and Matosinhos.

The event is jointly organised by the Academia de Vela BBDouro and by Douro-Marina, in partnership with the municipalities of Porto, Vila Nova de Gaia and Matosinhos.
