The seaport of Leixões predicts setting new record figures on cruise activity already this year, with 113 stopovers and over 120 thousand confirmed passengers with year-on-year increases of 13% and 26%.

In a statement, by News Agency Lusa, the APDL -Management of Douro and Leixões Ports highlights that this year, Leixões will for the first time receive and handle 15 cruise ships and new companies, including Marella Cruises (former Thomson Cruises) and Norwegian Cruise Line.

As for the Mediterranean Shipping Company, it will make its first turnaround in Leixões with the MSC Magnifica cruise ship.

From its opening, in 2011, the new cruise terminal in Leixões has welcomed over 252 stops, handled over 360 thousand passengers and was the gateway for about 96 thousand tourists and 100 cruises to Porto and the North region of Portugal, representing an increase of 33% in passengers number and 19% in ships number compared to the same period the previous year.

It should be spotlighted that in 2017, the port of Leixões had already established an historical record number in the volume of goods handled, with 19,5 million tons of cargo, 8% more than in 2016.
