From 10 October to 31 December, the Customs Building in Porto will host the exhibition "The World of Steve McCurry", the multi prized North American photographer, globally-recognized for having photographed Sharbat Gula, "Afghan Girl", which made the cover of National Geographic magazine in June 1985.

This exhibit is curated by Biba Giacchetti and Italian architect Peter Botazzi is in charge of scenography. The display comprises over 200 photos, compiling some of the most significant work by McCurry, some unpublished, like the case of the black and white collection of his report to Afghanistan, in 1979 and 1980. The exhibit covers photos of countries as diverse as Cuba, India, Brazil, Italy or United States.

McCurry's lenses have captured scenarios of war and violence, like the tragedy of World Trade Centre on 11 September, which he has photographed from his office in New York, the Gulf War, and the conflict in Afghanistan, the post-tsunami in Japan or the drama of child soldiers.

The photographer is one of the most famous photojournalists in the world and has won the Magazine Photographer of the Year, and was also photographer of the year for National Press Photographers Association and for the Royal Photographic Society's Centenary. He has won, two times, the first two prizes of World Press Photo (1985 and 1992), as well.

This year, in May, Steve McCurry visited Portugal and the city of Porto where he was welcomed at the City Hall Council Chambers by Mayor Rui Moreira.

His exhibition is now on show in Portugal, after having been displayed in Italy and Belgium.

From Porto, the exhibit will follow to Barcelona and Madrid.
