A caricature exhibition renders homage to one of the greatest Portuguese figures of all time, the Fado singer Amália Rodrigues, on the 3rd floor of the Alameda Shop & Spot, from 3rd till 31st October.

Amália Rodrigues popularised fado worldwide and travelled internationally throughout her career. She remains the best-selling Portuguese artist in history.

This exhibit is held in the framework of the PortoCartoon World Festival and the caricatures are part of the Special Caricature Prize 2019, which was organised by the National Press Museum (NPM).

Amália Rodrigues captured the attention of artists from several countries, namely Germany, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Colombia, Egypt, Scotland, Spain, Finland, Iran, Italy, Nigeria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Thailand, Turkey and Ukraine.

The exhibition is curated by the director of the National Press Museum, Luiz Humberto Marcos, in the scope of the protocol signed between that commercial area and the National Press Museum, so as to create an "Art spot" and to showcase twelve PortoCartoon exhibitions, for one year.

The caricatures are part of the PortoCartoon-World Festival Special Caricature Prize, organised by the National Press Museum (NPM), which has paid tribute to international leading figures, both national and international, namely Nelson Mandela, Charlie Chaplin, Picasso, Saramago, Manoel de Oliveira, Siza Vieira and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Prize for Special Caricature Amália Rodrigues was awarded to Portuguese artist António Santos, aka "Santiagu", and Spanish Matias Tolsá and also to Portuguese Aurélio Mesquita.

This is the forth exhibition held at Alameda Shop & Spot, as the Art Spot Gallery has already hosted the exhibits on Cristiano Ronaldo and Sara Sampaio.
