On December 1st Porto starts celebrating the most beautiful time of the year, with the switching on of the city lights and the big Christmas Tree that is back to Praça do General Humberto Delgado. This day also includes a free concert at the Super Bock Arena – Pavilhão Rosa Mota, with Bárbara Tinoco and several guests.

Christmas arrives in Porto from this Wednesday. Benefiting from the holiday on December 1st, this season’smagic environment invades the city, bringing the glow of the Christmas lights to more than 80 streets, squares, plazas, and gardens in Porto, and the giant Christmas tree in front of City Hall.

In addition to the Christmas lights, there’s also a special project, that will take snow to the streets of Cedofeita(pedestrian area) and Flores, as an incentive to traditional commerce and the sharing of family experiences. The equipment located in these areas will cast small snowflakes.

Additional measures to fight the pandemic as well as Metro works in Aliados stop the switching of the lightsparty

The moment the lights are switched on will be more symbolic this year, as the evolution of the epidemiological situation in the country and the expansion works on the network of Metro do Porto, currently underway in Praçada Liberdade and in part of Avenida dos Aliados, prevent the usual entertainment during the afternoon, precluding also the concerts and the traditional fireworks in Praça do General Humberto Delgado.

On December 1st, from 5.30 pm, the lights will be turned on in the city and the Christmas Tree will be lit, but without the celebration of other years in the Aloados, for safety reasons as well as public health.

In the gardens of Palácio de Cristal there will be a lighting project that was conceived for Avenida das Tílias and that includes a videomapping produced by the Atelier OCuboand shown at Concha Acústica, on holidays and weekends, until December 19th, from 6 to 8 pm.
