The Grand Auditorium of Rivoli recalls the most famous opera singer ever, Maria Callas, forty years after her death, with the screening of two films on 17 April.

The first screening features the film Medea at 6.30 pm. Medea is a film by Pier Paolo Pasolini based on the ancient myth of Medea, performed by Maria Callas. This was the only appearance of Maria Callas in a film. She does not sing in the film.

Pasolini's Medea is a very complex female figure. The director revisits the myth and classical literature by focusing on the individual, without losing sight of the symbolism of classical narratives.

The film was released in 1969 with a cast that includes Maria Callas, Laurent Terzieff, Massimo Girotti e Margareth Clementi.

The second screening starts at 10 pm and it is a documentary film by Tom Volf, "Maria By Callas".

This project is manifold as it presents previously unknown footage, unseen photographs, private Super 8 films and personal live recordings, intimate letters and rare behind-the scenes archival footage for the first time in colour.
