It is commonly accepted that a heading is not enough to summarize the ways of a dance, as such, to truly understand the ways of TAO Dance it is key to contemplate the company's performances at Rivoli Theatre, on 11th May, at 10 pm.

TAO Dance Theater was founded in 2008 and has taken contemporary dance scene by storm.

The company has performed in manifold events throughout China, crossing genres' boundaries, namely theatre, experimental music, film, visual arts and installation, in joint collaborations with leading Chinese artists.

Moreover, TAO has been featured in performances and choreographies in festivals all across the globe, such as Europalia (BE), Culturescapes (CH), M.A.D.E. Festival (SE), Singapore Arts Festival, the American Dance Festival (US) and Fall for Dance (US), Theater Bellevue (NL), Birmingham DanceXchange (UK), and Sadler's Wells (UK), just to mention a few.

TAO Dance Theater is devoted to enhancing the role of dance education, and the company has taught at China Central University of Nationalities, Beijing Languages University, Shaanxi Normal University, Yan'an University, Amsterdam's Henny Jurriens Stichtin, Switzerland's dance in Olten Festival, among other school, universities, and festivals, also providing regular open classes and workshops.

Choreographer Tao Ye creates fascinating, almost magical dance compositions and with the performance "4 & 8 Numerical Series" he uses ordinal numbers instead of names.

In Tao Ye's opinion, "the word or phrase are unable to express the meaning, which is hidden in the performance of modern dance theatre. Besides, the names give the viewer a biased opinion, forcing to expect something definite, and at the same time limit the creativity of the director. No words can express the meaning of today's performance. These works are rather permeated with our notions of body and physical practices. What your vision perceives is exactly what your heart hopes to express", explains Tao Ye.
