This year's PortoCartoon prizewinning cartoon will be one to remember

The National Press Museum announced the prizewinning cartoon of PortoCartoon 2019. The cartoon winner was created by the Belgian cartoonist Luc Descheemarker, depicting Donald Trump's face and hair as a chameleon with a dollar bill on its mouth.

"This is an exceptional art work; it shows an innovative technique because the artist first works on his computer and then he just sketches, and the substance of the image is really strong, expressive and very much present-day. Maybe this is one of the most relevant works regarding debate", stated to Lusa Agency Luiz Humberto Marcos, Director of the National Press Museum.

This work won under the main category of the festival, "Línguas e o Mundo" [Languages and the World].

The second prize was awarded to Croatian artist Mojmir Mihatov, featuring two faces with two tongues sticking out with two halves of a nut, which fit perfectly.

The third winning cartoon was the Spanish David Vela's artwork, which depicts an indigenous individual in the jungle and three toilet papers with dictionaries in Spanish, English and Portuguese.

To celebrate PortoCartoon 21st edition, the organisation decided to honour the singer, songwriter, musician and the 2016 Literature Nobel Laureate Bob Dylan and also the Portuguese Navigator Fernão de Magalhães famous for having organised the Spanish expedition to the East Indies from 1519 to 1522, resulting in the first circumnavigation of the Earth.

The 1st prize for the Bob Dylan cartoon was granted to Brazilian cartoonist Luiz Carlos Fernandes, current collaborator of Folha de São Paulo. The best cartoon for Fernão Magalhães was awarded to Pedro Ribeiro Ferreira, who had already won third best with a cartoon depicting Woody Allen.
