Today is the last day to apply for Best Xmas Window contest in Porto

Applications for the Concurso Montras de Natal 2020 [Xmas Windows Contest 2020] have been extended till today, 2nd December. The closing day was 30th November, however, owing to the grant of day-off by the Government, the Municipality of Porto extended applications deadline for today, 2nd December.

The Xmas Window decoration contest is promoted by Porto City Hall, jointly with the Traders Association of Porto. This is now the 5th edition and the goal is to showcase the best businesses storefronts in the city of Porto. In addition, the contest aims to promote businesses participation and to create awareness on the importance of shopping local and boosting local economy.

The key rules for participating are creativity and artistic displays that celebrate the festive season. Natural and legal persons that have a business in the city of Porto, of any type, running and with windows that are visible are eligible to enter the contest. Each business can submit one or more windows to the contest, by applying each of the windows and by using different decoration.

The Municipality of Porto will award the three best competitors with prize moneys of 2.250, 1.750 and 1.250 euros, respectively, besides trophies. Honourable Mentions can be attributed from the 4th to the 10th competitor.

Novelty, this year, is the symbolic prize of “Montra Amiga do Ambiente” [“Window friend of the Environment”, free translation], and it means that the winner shows the commitment towards environment protection, pollution prevention and sustainable use of resources.

Applications are open and running till 30th November 2020. Fill in the application form (mandatory), available at the institucional website of the Municipality of Porto, as well as two photos of the Windows to enter the contest, already allusive to the Xmas season, and submit via the Balcão de Atendimento Virtual (BAV); or in-person delivery at the Gabinete do Munícipe (Townsman Office), located at Praça do General Humberto Delgado, 266 - 4000-286 Porto (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 9am to 5pm; and on Wednesdays, from 9am to 8pm), upon prior arrangement via the Linha Porto. The Windows will be evaluated between 5th and 17th December 2020, and the key criteria are: originality and creativity; integration of the store product(s) with the window decoration; colours; materials; lighting; set harmony.
