United Airlines already flies to Porto as will other flagship companies

Major player in the airplane world, United Airlines already flies to the city of Porto, Portugal. The airliner is keen to go ahead with the daily flights Porto/New York/Newark starting on 5 May 2018.

This is extraordinary news for Porto and could only be accomplished due to the acknowledgment that Porto is a city for the future.

This most important intercontinental link to the main destination in the USA, trough one of the top airline companies in the world of aviation, places the city of Porto in the route of major U.S. cities.

This route is a major upgrade to the destination as well as a boost for Porto's economic competitiveness.

United operates with a Boeing 757, capable of carrying 196 passengers, of which 16 in business class in a seven hour flight between Porto and Newark Liberty International Airport.

The maiden voyage took place on May 5, with the route Porto/New York/Newark.

There is a market for Porto as an international destination, as Mayor Rui Moreira and his team at Porto City Hall have always stood up for.

In recent times, the city has welcomed airliners such as Lufthansa, British Airways, Air France, Turkish Airlines, and Royal Air Maroc.

Daily departure from the United States will be at 9.45 pm local time, and arrival at Porto Airport will be at 9.45 am. At 12.35, United flies to the States, scheduled to arrive at 3.35 pm.

"United is the world's third-largest airline in the world, it operates a large domestic and international route network, with an extensive presence in the Asia-Pacific region, and this is a daily route. This is big, as it will impact other areas than tourism itself, it is a business opportunity for the region of Porto, the most industrialized region in Portugal and internationalisation is an important step" stated ANA's Chief Executive, Carlos Lacerda.

"There are other flagship companies that want to operate in Porto. We are talking about major players, and the announcement will be made in due time", the same official said, and added that Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport "is the airport with high growth potential in Portugal, with already planned investments to increase its capacity".

"With no limits regarding airport capacity, we want to draw more airliners, establish new destinations, and increase the number of routes and frequencies within the same destinations", Carlos Lacerda further stated, adding that Francisco Sá Carneiro is the main infrastructure in all of the "north-western Iberian Peninsula".

United is a founding member of the Star Alliance, the world's largest airline alliance with a total of 28 member airlines.
