Readers of the US travel magazine 'Travel + Leisure' voted for the World's Best Awards 2024 and chose the city of Porto as one of the 15 best to visit across Europe. Factors such as heritage, culture, gastronomy, trade and the hospitality of local population were taken into account.

Based on these criteria, participants had to award a rating of excellent, above average, average, below average or poor, with the final scores representing the average result of readers' responses.

The city of Porto scored 88.85 points on a scale of 0 to 100, and one of the characteristics that most caught voters' attention was its traditional gastronomy. 'Excellent food and Port wine', one reader wrote in the comments of the vote, while another asked: 'What's not to love?'.

The American magazine also refers to Invicta as 'a much-loved city, about a two-hour drive from the Douro Valley wine region', with readers highlighting other strengths such as a historic centre 'where you can go for a walk', the 'romantic cafeterias' and the 'robust nightlife'.

More than 700,000 votes

In addition to Porto, two other Portuguese cities are listed on Travel + Leisure: Funchal and Lisbon. Both the Invicta and the capital city are already regulars on the magazine's list, while Madeira's city is a newcomer.

The US magazine asks its readers to give their opinions on their travelling experiences every year, sharing their opinions on the best cities, hotels, cruise ships, spas, airlines and more.

This time, more than 186,000 people participated in the survey, totalling more than 700,000 votes distributed among different evaluation categories.

Porto has been standing out as a tourism sector benchmark. Just recently, at the 19th edition of the 'Publituris Portugal Travel Awards', one of the city's hotels, Torel Avantgarde, received the best five-star hotel in Portugal award.
