World water day is celebrated on 22 March and the opening of the refurbished Water Pavilion couldn't have had a better date to mark its (re)opening. The Water Pavilion officially opened doors to the public on 23 March, at 10am. The pavilion stands at the City Park, in Porto.

Both the Mayor of Porto and the Minister of the environment were the distinguished guests to first visit the renovated structure the previous day, on 22 March.

The exhibition space and collection were also refurbished. The Water Pavilion is a small scale project similar to that designed by Alexandre Burmester for the Expo 98. The same architect was in charge of this renovation works and they represent a total investment of € 745 000 euros.

The design of the Water Pavilion aims to rise people attention on the issues of climate change, water scarcity and pollution of the oceans by deploying new technologies, "that just didn't exist twenty years ago", as mentioned by Mayor of Porto Rui Moreira.

Taking on a more interactive role with the community, this is the privileged space in Porto to learn more about the relationship with the water.
