Where are Europe's hotel growth markets? They are in Porto, that's for sure!

People still travel for leisure despite world encompassing challenges, such as natural disasters as tsunamis, typhoons and earthquakes or economic and security concerns.

The world's leading property agents, founded in the UK in 1855, Savills recently spotlighted Porto in their blog as a top market for hotel growth.

"International tourism is booming and with 713 million people travelling to and within Europe in 2018 (a 6 per cent rise on 2017's numbers)", as stated by the United Nations' World Tourism Organisation.

This boost in global travel means additional overnight stays and, consequently, the European accommodation sector is booming.

Accordingly, a number of potential future growth markets stand out, in particular those in South and Central Eastern Europe.

As for the South, the Portuguese city of Porto shows an increase in the number of tourists. Some say that this happens for the food, others credit the mild and nice weather almost the entire year. But one factor that adds to the equation is Porto Airport, which is ready to take off when it comes to handling passenger volume increase.

Porto Airport reached the 11,939 million passenger mark for the year 2018, which is an increase of 10.7% compared to 2017 and according to PressTur, data from ANA/Vinci, the concession company for Portuguese airports shows that Porto was the airport that grew more strongly in 2018, which is an increase of 10.7% compared to 2017.

As a result, Porto is seeing new market entrants with renowned global hotel brands establishing in the city.

Porto Airport is able to offer its passengers visits to museums, gardens, cultural performances, and much more, as it takes about 15 minutes to get to the city of Porto, and time allowing, passengers can venture outside and make the most of this Northern hub.

This assessment is done by analysing the top 20 markets on airport passenger growth, benchmarked against interest levels derived from travel-related Google searches.
