World Women's Day is celebrated in Porto

Porto Appeal Court Ruling celebrates World Women's Day with the initiative themed "Sophia Mulher Poesia" ["Sophia Woman Poetry", free translation] on 8 March, starting at 2.30pm.

This event will also honour the centenary of Sophia de Mello Andresen's birth, a Portuguese poet and writer, whose poetic central themes were the sea, as well as Ancient Greece and ideas of freedom and justice.

The event includes poem readings, lectures and a painting exhibit.

International Women's Day is celebrate on 8 March. It is a public holiday in some countries and largely ignored elsewhere. In some places, it is a day of protest; in others, it is a day that celebrates womanhood.
