Last Friday, Alfândega do Porto hosted a show in which a group of young people from Campanhã showed off their artistic skills. The final presentation of the first six months of the ‘Urban Art - The Future in Your Hands’ project, organised by the municipal company Domus Social, featured Olympic athlete Vanessa Marina.

After many hours of training and dedication, a group of young people, ages 9 to 15, who live in disadvantaged communities in the parish of Campanhã, presented the show ‘Urban Art - The Future in Your Hands’.

Alongside urban dance, the presentation brought together the arts of graffiti, urban photography and urban video.

The session, which was attended by Urban Planning councillor Pedro Baganha, brought to a close the first six months of training for the project, whose main aim is to help develop the artistic skills of young people who neither study nor work due to their unfavourable socio-economic background.

The project is set to continue

Through this initiative, young people had the opportunity to shine alongside various professionals in the field, such as DJ Godzi, rapper Sp Rocha, beatboxer Fresh'Mic, guitarist Manel Soares, singer Joana Nunes and dancer Polina Pavlik.

The show also featured Olympic athlete Vanessa Marina, the Portuguese b-girl who competed in the breaking category at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The project will continue, with two more training semesters planned. As is the case now, each six-month learning period will culminate in the preparation and presentation of a final show, in which participants will have the opportunity to share the skills acquired during the training experience.

The initiative, promoted by the municipal company Domus Social, has the support of MXM ArtCenter.
