They are not an obvious choice for the visitor arriving the city, but the Porto cemeteries are part of the touristic itinerary – there is a new promotional video that unravels some of the secrets of these spaces, highlighting their heritage aspects.

The initiative aims to contribute to the qualification of human resources in the sector and recognize tourist accommodation that implements in its business a set of good practices and initiatives at the management level.

After being voted Best City Destination in Europe 2022, Porto now integrates the finalists for the world awards in the categories “World's Leading City Destination” and “World's Leading Heritage City Destination”.

Porto was elected Europe’s Leading City Destination 2022, on the 29th edition of the World Travel Awards (WTA), a ceremony that took place last night, in Palma de Mallorca (Spain). The award, which once again places the city in the elite of the best European destinations, was received by the councillor for Tourism and Internationalization, Catarina Santos Cunha.

On World Tourism Day, which is celebrated on the 27th, the Municipality of Porto presented a new strategy for this sector, focused on positive tourism, with new perspectives, enhancing the attractiveness of the city and ensuring, simultaneously, sustainability for its residents.

The initiative aims to promote smart tourism in the EU by rewarding cities for their pioneering approaches in terms of accessibility, digitalisation, sustainability, cultural heritage, and creativity.

In a study titled "Underrated City Breaks", Bounce analysed 100 of the world's most visited cities and ranked them based on which ones have the highest percentage of five-star rated attractions, but the least visited, in order to reveal which urban destinations are the most "underrated".

“Texturas do Porto,” the new promotional video of the Municipality, aims to show details of a city filled with lights, shadows, reflections, colors, and textures, rich in visual details to stimulate the senses and present the city from a different perspective of the usual.

The voting in the several categories takes place online until August the 8th and the winners will be announced at the World Travel Awards ceremony, in Mallorca, Spain, on October the 1st.
