The 18th edition of Wine Essence, considered the “major wine experience in Portugal”, returns to Stock Exchange Palace between the 31st of March and the 3rd of April.

The city’s Historic Centre will receive a shot of new blood with the opening of a university residence, in a building owned by Port City Hall, in Bainharia Street. The management of the facilities will be shared between the City Hall, Federação Académica do Porto (FAP) and the University of Porto.

Room 2 of Casa da Música will open its doors to international experts in the area of architecture who, between the 3rd and 5th of February, will seek to promote new sustainable approaches that enable the reduction of the impact of construction in the environment, using technology.

The City and the University of Porto give the go ahead to differentiated projects for three new university student dorms, which will give the city students 270 more beds.

The winners of the 19th edition of the João de Almada Award, created by Porto City Hall to encourage and promote the rehabilitation of the city’s architectural heritage, awarding every two years the best examples of good practice in this area, have already been chosen.

The 14 modules of the supporting wall of the Palácio de Cristal Garden have a renewed face, exhibiting the new works selected as part of the Programa de Arte Urbana.The call for artistic interventions established the use of a common palette for all artists, to create a visual homogeneity on the mural. For this version, warm colours were suggested, as way to provide warmth and soothe the cold days.

Under the motto “500 anos da Rua das Flores”, 24 electricity distribution boxes greet the new year with new colours. The works result from Programa de Arte Urbana launched by the municipal company Ágora for the annual intervention in equipment arranged along the iconic street.

A team of researchers from the Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde (Institute for Research and Innovation in Health) (i3S) at the University of Porto found in cell-to-cell communication a way to stop the progression of pancreatic cancer.

The fund, made available by the Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência, will allow the launch of more than 150 new courses and training for adults, as well as five degrees in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.

The first phase of applications for the 2022/23 academic year extends until 28 February.
