Porto City Hall is to enter a cooperation agreement with taxis to transport the elderly to vaccination sites

Porto City Hall is preparing a cooperation agreement with both taxi shuttles in town to transport the elderly to the vaccination centres, namely the Health Centres in the Western and Eastern part of the city. Rui Moreira announced the news on 22nd February, during the Municipal Executive meeting.

Porto is shortlisted as an European city where startups will transform into unicorns

Porto was shortlisted among the 13 European cities to produce unicorns, in the coming years, according to the findings of the Startup Cities Alliance (SCALE) report. The Invicta is pinpointed By the SCALE report as one of the cities in Europe where unicorns are building up; that is, a privately held startup company valued at over $1 billion.

Porto City Hall grants financial support of 280 thousand euros to public schools in the city

Porto City Hall grants financial aid of 280 thousand euros to public schools in the municipality. This decision was approved unanimously during the last Executive Meeting. This amount will be used to support logistical and material costs, socio-educational support, scientific and technological literacy projects and the purchase of Individual Protection Equipment (IPE).

Porto leads the European project to fight energy poverty

AdEPorto, aka Porto Energy Agency, will lead a European project, financed under the Horizonte2020 programme, whose goal is to fight energy poverty. The initiative is called ‘Porto Energy ElevatoR’ (PEER) and it is aligned not only with the best European and national policies, but also with the goals and requirements set forth in the National plan for Energy and Climate 2030, the Roadmap for Carbon Neutrality 2050 or the Long Term Strategy for Building Renewal, which has been recently approved.

The new website of the “Museu da Cidade” is a port of call in Porto

The launch of the new website of “Museu da Cidade” was accompanied by a mupi campaign in the city’s streets and squares. The ongoing pandemic led to the standstill in cultural in-person interactions; thus, the City Museum (Museu da Cidade) launched its new website last 3rd February, as the result of a project that has been presented to the city, a little over a year ago.

Porto deployed a vaccination plan and all is in place but the supply of vaccines

The Queimódromo is set as the first vaccination centre in Porto, with the capacity to administrate circa two thousand vaccines per day. The former bus parking facility of the STCP, located in São Roque, is also another option, and the Gardens of Palácio de Cristal is under consideration for a walk-thru. “As long as vaccines are in place, the city of Porto is ready to boost vaccination”, stated Mayor Rui Moreira, yesterday morning, during a press conference at the site of the Queimódromo.

The first recognised LEED building in the Iberian Peninsula stands in Porto

The student residence Milestone Porto Asprela achieved the LEED gold certification or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The building, which was formally inaugurated on 19th November 2019, is the first in the Iberian Peninsula to earn this international certification, in the Hospitality typology.
