SEA LIFE Porto joins "TheTrashTraveler" to raise Awareness about Plastic Pollution with Art

Today is the day that SEA LIFE Porto and molecular biologist, Andreas Noe, aka "TheTrashTraveler" join together to the beach-cleaning event organised under the initiative "The Plastic Hike". Rendezvous is set at Castelo do Queijo, at 6.30pm. Volunteers to the mission, who will be wearing a vest provided by SEA LIFE Porto, will comply with all the health preventive measures in place, issued by DGS, namely keeping social distancing.

The latest UNESCO newsletter on innovative practices regarding cultural management all around the world highlights the "Historic Centres under Change - Perspectives of World Heritage in the Atlantic Area" work, a project led by Porto that was presented in the Invicta last May 2019, based on the conclusions that had been drafted in Florence.

How to shape a fun and enjoyable weekend in Porto

The free outdoor cinema cycle is back this summer, but it won't travel the city, due to the pandemic. Instead, it is set at the Monte Aventino's court and benches to ensure all safety measures are in place.The trill continues on 21st and 22nd August, with "Sonic- The Movie" and "My Spy", respectively, a sure bet for children and grown-ups alike. Sessions start at 10pm.

What about a cultural journey with a different twist to it? Porto Customs inaugurates a digital immersive exhibit on Klimt and Monet's artwork, featuring holograms and 360 degree view projections. The exhibit will be on show at Porto Customs from 21st August until 15th November. Entrance is free to children up to five years old.

"Castro" or probably the best love story ever told takes to the stage at TNSJ

The National Theatre São João (TNSJ), takes to the stage the performance "Castro", directed by Nuno Cardoso, on 20th August, at 9pm. The performance will be on show till 12th September, in different timetables and encompassing all the necessary measures to fully include all types of audiences, namely Portuguese Sign Language, audio description and English subtitles. There will also be an after show talk, on 30th August. All pandemic preventive measures are in place, in compliance with the DGS.

The municipal network for Environmental Education in Porto invites for an evening with bats on 21st August, at 8.30pm, at the Centro de Educação Ambiental do Núcleo Rural, in the City Park. This session is devoted to get to know this night creature and dispel myths about this nocturnal flying mammal. Bat tourism is essential as it helps preserve bat's habitat and raise awareness on the important role these mammals play in ecosystems as pollinators, insectivores and frugivores.

Architect from Porto wins Sacred Architecture prize

The Joaquim Portela Arquitetos atelier won the third prize for its sacred architecture project, the Cohen Chapel, in the Swiss Alps, awarded every four years by the Frate Sole Foundation, in the framework of Sacred Art and Architecture International Prize.
