The Summer School on Art & Cinema, which is jointly organised by the School of Arts of Porto Catholic University and the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, the New Alphabet School from Berlin, is back in Porto from 5 to 9 July. The five-day programme is access free but subject to room capacity.

This will be the third edition of the Summer School, whit a special focus on art and film. The programme extends to different venues in Porto and gathers renowned national and foreign artists and filmmakers, experts in the field of contemporary cinema, from Australia, Brazil, Guinea-Bissau and Israel.

This year’s motto is “Survivance”, and for one week the audience will discover unique ways to overcome violence, in such inclement times of socio-political and ecological wrongdoing. The term “Survivance” was coined by Gerald Vizenor, the American scholar who advances that the victim should be empowered through art, politics and collective practices.

The Summer School’s programme includes workshops and an open programme that features films screenings and exhibition openings. Entrance is free, but subject to space capacity.

The event is organised with the support of the Research Center for Science and Technology of the Arts and the FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology.
