Cartoon art showcases Chaplin in Porto

The Art and Spot Gallery, in Porto, at Alameda Shop & Spot, showcases cartoon art and the tribute is to silent film icon Charlie Chaplin. The exhibit will be on show until 29 February.

Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin was an English comic actor, filmmaker, and composer, world famous through his screen persona, "The Tramp" (Charlot in several languages). He is considered one of the most important figures in the history of the film industry.

This exhibit is part of PortoCartoon 2019, organised by the World National Press Museum (NPM), and gathers the work of caricaturists from countries such as Germany, Bolivia, Bosnia, Brazil, Canada, China, Cuba, Egypt, Guatemala, India, Iran, Israel, Montenegro, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Uzbekistan and other.

As stated by the organisation, "these exhibits are some of the selected works by an international jury from hundreds of works that entered the competition.

The exhibition also features books on Charlot, with photographs of Charlie Chaplin with Einstein, Gandhi and Bernard Shaw.

A protocol was celebrated between the National Press Museum and the Alameda Shopping, so as to create an "Art spot" and to showcase PortoCartoon caricature exhibitions. The art and Spot has already hosted tributes to Amália, Manoel de Oliveira, Cristiano Ronaldo, Sara Sampaio and Woody Allen.

The exhibit is curated by Luiz Humberto Marcos, director of the national Press Museum and it can visited till 29 February, at the Art and Spot Gallery (2nd floor of Alameda).
