The cultural offering of Casa da Música (CdM) has been unparalleled, which alongside its excellent facilities, contributed to record visitor numbers.

In three months' time, Casa da Música commemorates its 15th anniversary - it was inaugurated on 15th April 2005. In the meantime, this cultural buildinge features a record breaking number of visits - over seven million visitors - which demonstrates the ongoing enthusiasm for the building designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and its unique roll call of concerts all over the years.

Foreign visitors fuelled the surge, with large increases in Spain, UK, France and Brazil.

Casa da Música was built to be part of Porto European Culture Capital 2001; however, it was inaugurated in 2005 by the President of the Republic, Jorge Sampaio; all construction work concluded in May 2006, whit records of visitors' entries.

"Casa da Musica translates into a statement of style, an aesthetic convention, an iconic mark of the architect. The main feature of the project is the visual continuity that is established not only between the interior and exterior, but also among the reference spaces within the building. A mystery, an ambiguity that provokes the senses, a feeling of "Jack-in-the-box" that accompanies the visitor from start to finish", reads the official Casa da Música website.
