Casa da Música hosts a Christmas Concert on 20 December, by Porto Symphonic Orchestra, at Sala Suggia, scheduled to start at 9pm.
Casa da Música (CdM) hosts a special Xmas concert on 20 December, with Porto Symphonic Orchestra delivering a grand repertoire by Camille Saint?Saëns, which includes no less than a piano four-hand rendition and an organ on stage.
Camille Saint?Saëns was a French composer, organist, conductor and pianist of the Romantic era.
The concert is directed by Michael Sanderling and besides the Symphonie No. 3 "avec orgue" (with organ), it also includes Samuel Barber Die Natali, op. 36, and Engelbert Humperdinck Suite de Hänsel und Gretel.
For the record, Saint-Saëns was a musical prodigy, who made his concert debut at the age of ten. After studying at the Paris Conservatoire he followed a conventional career as a church organist, first at Saint-Merri, Paris and, from 1858, La Madeleine, the official church of the French Empire.
