The National Institute for Statistics collected already circa 3.7 million responses to the censuses, which corresponds to over 80% of the households. The deadline to register household information under the Census project (3 May) has been extended until 31 May, so that all citizens can complete the register online.

Only 10% of the population looked for the eBalcão – available in the parishes – by phone or by using the direct support by census officers to provide information on their households. The vast majority of the population submitted information via the Internet at censos2021.ine.pt.

Conducting census on Population and Housing is important as it provides data on the characteristics of the population.

Portuguese citizens must submit their Censuses 2021, which occur every ten years, by using the codes that were delivered to their respective household mail boxes, by Census officers during last April. This information submission is mandatory and the households that have not yet received the codes will be visited by a Census Officer, who will enhance the need to submit that information.
