Lockdown boredom is eased as Porto offers a multitude of activities such as the screening of the film-concert "Metropolis" at Coliseu Porto Ageas, on 23rd August at 9pm.

The presentation of the film is followed by the soundtrack of Filipe Raposo, in-house pianist and composer of the Portuguese Symphonic Orchestra.

All health measures regarding Covid-19 prevention are in place.

Both pianist and orchestra will deliver a live performance of the original soundtrack composed by the pianist for the 1927 silent film directed by Fritz Lang, "Metropolis".

"Metropolis" is considered a masterpiece of German Expressionism and Filipe Raposo, who has authored several soundtracks for cinema and theatre alike, took the challenge by Teatro São Luiz and composed an original music score, performed by 15 musicians of the Portuguese Symphonic Orchestra, conducted by maestro Cesário Costa.

The film Metropolis is regarded as a pioneering science-fiction movie, being among the first feature-length movies of that genre. The plot is set in a futuristic urban dystopia and follows the attempts to imagine the city of the future, one century away, in 2026, where the gap between the better half and the oppressed is satirised in the parable man-machine that provides energy to the city.

Filipe Raposo's music score provides the reflexion on how big cities work and it is also crosscutting in terms of time, fitting not only the past and the present but also the future alike.

The performance is a coproduction by São Luiz Teatro Municipal, Coliseu Porto Ageas and Opart/Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, jointly with the Cinemateca Portuguesa.
