Emirates decided it was time to make a winner move, a move towards the city of Porto with the establishment of a Dubai-Porto route by Emirates.

"The people of Porto are very authentic. They display their likes and dislikes openly", enhanced the Ambassador of Portugal to the UAE, Joaquim Moreira de Lemos.

Combining personal experience and reality of facts, the Ambassador pinpointed that "Porto's dimensions are big", meaning that the city of Porto "is the traditional capital of entrepreneurship and industry" and it is the Invicta, meaning "Unvanquished city".

The councillor for Economy, Tourism and Commerce of Porto City Hall, Ricardo Valente stressed the fact that Porto is a triple "T" city: the city of Talent, Technology and Tolerance.

"It is a centre for 1.8 million active population of the Northern Region of Portugal - where Porto is located- and the University of Porto has over 32 thousand students, of which circa 6000 are foreign students".

Also, at UPTEC - Science and Technology Park of the University of Porto, researchers and teachers, startups and large companies are working together to make Porto an innovation and industry capital.

In addition, world class companies choose Porto to settle like Vestas, BMW and Paribas.

An Emirates' spokesperson affirmed that "the Dubai-Porto direct flight service furthers Emirate's role as a bridge builder between nations as Portugal is a very important market in Europe for us" and that "the new route Dubai-Porto will complement our double daily service to Lisbon.

Also, "customers who reside in the North-West of Spain can also access Emirates network due to its proximity to Porto. Porto is a growing market and an ideal destination for business and tourism."

Porto is evermore a major centre of commerce and can also provide viable investment in several areas, including technology and innovation, with Porto having "clearly grasped what the new economy is", affirmed the President of the Regional Government of Galicia, Alberto Nuñez Feijóo during his visit to the city of Porto, in April 2017.

Emirates' spokesperson also affirmed that "Porto offers a rich cultural heritage" and that "it is an important trade and industrial city".

This year, in May, Rui Moreira conferred on the Aga Khan, the 49th hereditary Imam of the Ismaili Muslims the keys to the city of Porto, in recognition to his contribution to the construction of a better society. Also, the Aga Khan will be awarded the Porto Municipal Honour Medal of the City, in a ceremony to be held at the Official Residence of the Mayor of Porto, Casa do Roseiral, on 9 July 2019.
