European cinema at Porto Book Fair

In just over one week, Porto Book fair will feature a vibrant, intense and international cultural programme, based on the literary universe of Eduardo Lourenço, the prominent figure to be honoured this year with a Tília (Linden tree) at Avenida das Tílias.

The Fair runs from 6 to 22 September, at the Gardens of Palácio de Cristal, with lots of activities to choose from, namely spoken word sessions, debates or workshops.

As ever, the fair aims to offer its visitors the best films under the aegis of Europe; thus, Guilherme Blanc and Joana Canas Marques, curators of the Cinema Programme at Porto Book Fair, have selected films that approach cultural and political events that demonstrate Europe's identity matrix.

The "culture of disquiet" that Eduardo Lourenço wrote about, is the motto for this two week programme regarding cinema at Porto Book Fair.

The Programme has kicked off on 8 September, with "The Devils", by Ken Russel, but there is still time to appreciate "Caché", by Michael Haneke, on 15 September; also, Marianne and Juliane (Die bleierne Zeit), also called The German Sisters in the United Kingdom, by Margarethe von Trotta, on 17 September and the last screening, on 22 September, which includes the film "Eternity and a Day", by Theo Angelopoulos.

All sessions are screened at Auditorium of Almeida Garrett Library, at 9.30pm.
